Рецепта НА ДЕНЯ от античния Помпей
  Патина ZOMOTEGANON (рибно филе с праз и кориандър)

(Apic. 4, 2, 27) Състав:

• 1 цяло фирмата-месести риба
• 200 мл на рибните запаси
• Намалена 30 мл бяло вино
• Liquamen до вкус (или соев сос)
• 2 чаена лъжичка зехтин
• 1 нарязан праз
• 1 ч.л. кориандър семена
• голяма щипка черен пипер
• 1 ч.л. Девисил (или целина семена)
• 1 ч. л. нарязан пресен риган
• 2 сурови жълтъка
• обрат на черен пипер

Инструкции:

Филе от риба и да ги добавите в тиган, преди да топинг с рибните запаси, вино, зехтин, след това импровизирайте.

CARDUOS (Thistles in eggs’ sauce)

(Apic. 3, 19, 1) Ingredients:

• Thistles*, a taft
• Liquamen (or 5 tblsp soya sauce + 5 tsp anchovy paste)
• 5 tblsp oil
• 4 eggs

Instructions:

Clean, cut and boil the thistles. Boil eggs. Put in a pan Liquamen and oil, mesh and boil. Put the thistles in the sauce and cut eggs over it. Cover and leave it marinate for half an hour, without boiling. Serve hot.
*It’s possible to use artichoke instead of thistles.

In times of misfortune and disaster, the
people of the town were expected to win
back the favour of the gods through
prayer and sacrifices.

Whole town religious festivals and
ceremonies were major events in the
society’s calendar and were taken very
seriously.

In both Pompeii & Herculaneum there
were important priests who came from the
town’s important families.
 Their role was to oversee the organising
and running of the festivals and
celebrations.
 Women held priestess positions only in the
cult religions.
However like other Roman towns, Pompeii &
Herculaneum’s religious practice was different to
others.

Other household gods included the likes of Vesta –
goddess of the hearth, Panates – guardian of the
pantry.

Isis was very popular with the women, the poor and the slaves. As Pompeii was a middle class town, these groups of people would have made up the majority of numbers, hence the popularity of the religion.
